A Day Out in San Antonio
San Antonio is a wonderful place to visit. In the early 1700's Texas was still part of Mexico and under Spanish rule. In order to assimilate the native peoples the Spanish government set up a series of missions along the San Antonio River. The remains of one of these missions was fortified by the Spanish military and later, after Mexico had won its independance from Spain, was the site of the famous 'Battle of the Alamo' as part of the Texas struggle for independance. The Alamo still stands in the heart of what is now a bustling modern city with a distinct Mexican-American flavor.
As part of our day in San Antonio we would plan to visit (time permitting) the Institute of Texan Cultures, the Riverwalk, Old Market Square and the Alamo. For those with other interests there is also the San Antonio Missions National Historic Park, San Antonio Museum of Art, Southwest School of Art and Craft, ArtPace, Botanical Gardens, the Witte Museum.
Expect to have a full day with lots of time to shop and explore. We will get back to the hotel in time for you to fall into bed!
