Nourish your soul with a spiritual vacation in the Texas Hill Country. Autumn is a time to celebrate the harvest, a time for reflection, a time to honor the souls of those who are no longer with us, and a time to prepare for the winter ahead. Come and explore with us the world around and the wonders within.
Monday, October 29th: our shuttle will pick up at Austin Bergstrom Airport (AUS) around 5:30 pm. We will be keeping track of flight times and will take into account flight delays. The drive to Llano takes just over an hour. At the hotel we will have a short welcome ceremony - introduce ourselves and open the circle.
Tuesday, October 30th: We will start the day with a lesson on journeying (Karen Hutchins) and will take our first journey together to seek our power animal. In the afternoon Karen will talk about shamanic beliefs with regard to souls and the manifestation of psychopomp. In the evening we will discuss Samhain as celebrated by the Celts and Dia do les Muertos (The Day of the Dead) as celebrated in Mexico.
Wednesday, October 31st: Today we will make preparations for our celebration of Samhain which begins at Sunset today, and Dia de los Muertos which is celebrated on November 1st and 2nd. After journeying together with our power animals to seek guidance and inspiration we will prepare fetishes for the fire ceremony which will begin at sunset by the river.
Thursday, November 1st: Today we prepare for our evening celebration of Dia de los Muertos which will be centered around a meal put together by our group and including the traditional foods that are offered to welcome the souls of the dead as they join our celebration. We will make masks and decorations and prepare an offrenda.
Friday, November 2nd: A full day out in San Antonio. Because San Antonio has a large Latino population you will have the opportunity to see traditionally decorated alters and graveyards prepared for the Dia de los Muertos celebrations, view exhibits and watch the Dia de los Muertos Barrios procession in the evening. Watch the town come alive as the lives of our dead ones are celebrated and their souls are welcomed back for this joyous celebration.
Saturday, November 3rd: In the morning Karen will teach a workshop on the use of shamanism for personal healing. In the afternoon we will be joined by members of Karen's Shamanism in the Millennium class for a workshop on Using Helping Spirits and their Wisdom
Sunday, November 4th: In the morning the workshop on the use of shamanism for personal healing will continue. In the afternoon we will take a trip (by minibus) to Fredericksburg for shopping and recreation.
Monday, November 5th: In the morning Karen will teach a class on the Medicine Wheel. You will learn how to create a Medicine Wheel at home or a portable Medicine Wheel to carry with you. In the afternoon we will travel (by minibus) to a secluded river crossing where we can celebrate the river spirit, celebrate the spirits of nature, swim, paddle, explore, relax, contemplate.
Tuesday, November 6th: In the morning Steve Roberts will facilitate a discussion on the Manifestation of Spirit. In the afternoon we will travel (by minibus) to Enchanted Rock where we will have a picnic and hike to the top of the rock to observe and celebrate the sunset. Later in the evening will be an optional trip to the secluded river crossing we visited on Monday so we can celebrate the spirit of the river and the spirits of the night.
Wednesday, November 7th: Today Karen will help us weave together the threads we spun throughout the week. We will take a broader look at shamanism - how to utilize the concepts in your everyday life, urban shamanism, journeying. In the afternoon there will be time for last minute shopping in Llano. In the evening we will have a traditional Texas Cookout followed by the closing ceremony.
Thursday, November 8th: Depart at noon for Austin International Airport.
